We managed to make it to Denison last night before becoming tired as hell. Fortunately, Tom Bodett left the light on at what is probably one of the dumpier Motel 6's I've ever stayed at. Still, it was a damn fine evening.
I got to start my morning by grabbing a bit of fast food breakfast and helping an elderly couple jump start their car. For some reason, people -- especially older people -- single me out to ask directions, make conversation, request help, etc. I guess I seem approachable. It's a trait that fascinates Callie. It has stopped fascinating me. It just is what happens to me. This particular gentleman was a disabled veteran, and was really fond of his jumper cables, a very nice pair that is actually two pieces, which connect to the opposing battery terminals and THEN one completes the cable circuit. Very safe.
We stopped in Tulsa on the way to Pawhuska, first to show Callie the giant sculpture in front of Oral Roberts University of praying hands (it's kind of a cool sculpture, despite the religiosity) and then down Lewis to the original Goldie's Patio Grill for lunch, an old favorite of mine. We finally rolled into Pawhuska, crashed for a bit, then off to Bartlesville (home of Phillips Petroleum and David Abeyta!) for dinner at Garfields, where I was able to have a Shiner Bock in something they call a BigDawg (a 22 oz frosted mug). Yummy.
