My day started with the newspaper today -- the reliably awful Houston Chronicle, in addition to the various news sites on the web.  Today's Chron, however, had a delightful editorial written by Robert Tracinski of the Ayn Rand Institute, entitled "The Exploited Millionaires: The Rich Most Deserve Tax Cuts" (in true Chron fashion, they don't have it listed in their online edition, so I have linked to ARI's archive).  I won't go into the details, as the title is self-explanatory and the article is an easy read.  It is refreshing, however, to see editorials like this in major newspapers (does the Chron count?) other than the usually outstanding Wall Street Journal editorial page. 

Looking back over the weekend, I've gotten quite a bit done, especially on the website.  I would have gotten MORE done if I haven't had to spend today working on TAXES.  I wound up owing money yet again, despite having had extra withheld.  I'm not sure how this always seems to happen.  What I find almost as offensive as the IRS in the first place is the fact that they assess a penalty -- A FRIGGING PENALTY -- if one has had too little tax withheld throughout the year!   I've yet to pay it, because I find it to be an abomination.  But doesn't that just sum up the statist mentality -- it's their money, not mine, and if I don't get it to them as soon as I've earned it, I'm in big trouble.  Words can not even do justice to the fury I feel.

So I'm going to stop, and I'm going to spend about an hour trying to make some progress on the Kaplan book.
